What is eBay?
eBay is the largest online marketplace on the internet. It is a place where anybody (even you) can sell pretty much anything, and people from all over the world can buy it. eBay was originally developed as an online auction site where members could bid on items, but it has expanded to include "fixed price" items which are items that can simply be purchased without bidding, just like a normal online store.
There are millions of items of every description being sold on eBay, and there are thousands of different people and businesses selling there. eBay itself does not sell anything on eBay. It simply provides the online service for people like you and me to sell our items and for other people to buy them from us.
Some of the best deals in the world are found on eBay. Why? Because there are many people that have something that you need, and it is not worth much to them. So they are willing to get whatever they can out of it, and you can reap the benefits!
Is eBay safe?
The answer is...Yes! It is one of the safest places on the web to shop, especially if you use their PayPal payment service. PayPal is a online payment service that is similar to a bank account. You can put money in your PayPal account from any bank account or credit/debit card and safely pay millions of people on the web without revealing any of your private information. PayPal is owned by eBay and is integrated with eBay, and nearly every eBay seller accepts PayPal. If you happen to have a problem with a transaction and the seller will not correct the problem, you can report the problem to eBay and PayPal, and they help you.
Scams and eBay Feedback
The most important thing when buying an item on eBay is to check the feedback profile of the seller. Simply click on the number that is to the right of their username, and it will display the feedback that others have left for them and that they have left for others. Reading those comments tell you how real people like yourself feel about the person you would be dealing with. If they have no feedback or a lot of negative comments, be very careful. If they have a lot of good feedback, you can safely place a high degree of trust in them.

I have Heard Bad Things about eBay...
There is no doubt about it, it is impossible to please everyone. Even the best eBay sellers cannot do it although they will try everything they can to help. When someone has a bad experience, they bark way louder than anyone that has a good experience. So the bad is often overemphasized.
Just remember, for every bad experience that may occur on eBay, there are thousands and thousands of good experiences. If someone told you that they had a bad experience on eBay, just do not use the seller that they used. If you will simply use the tools that eBay provides, such as user feedback and PayPal, coupled with a little of your "gut feeling," your chances of having an unresolvable problem are next to nothing.
